Donnie was a minister among the churches of Christ, originated from South Pittsburg, Tennessee, and was raised in Bridgeport, Alabama. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from David Lipscomb College (now Lipscomb University), followed by a Master of Science in Social Work from The University of Tennessee School of Social Work and a Doctor of Theology degree from Trinity Theological Seminary. His career included teaching positions at Freed-Hardeman University, where he held roles such as Director of Social Work and Chairman of the Department of Family and Social Services, as well as at Lipscomb University.

Beyond his academic pursuits, he actively participated in various aspects of ministry, including gospel meetings, lectureships, radio work, campaigns for Christ, and local ministries. Notably, he contributed to evangelization efforts in the Galilee region of Israel. Throughout his career, he served congregations in Tennessee, Florida, and Myrtle Beach, SC, and he was associated with the Red Boiling Springs Church of Christ in Red Boiling Springs, TN. In Myrtle Beach, he held dual roles as a minister and an elder.

Donnie Barnes passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013. His death was due to natural causes and was very unexpected. His work will continue on through the work of Donnie’s home congregation and his family, and you will still be able to purchase Donnie’s work on the DVD.
